When the shit hits the fan – Túto frázu Angličania používajú vtedy, keď sa o niečom, čo chceli pôvodne utajiť, dozvie každý… Angl.: Messy and exciting consequences brought about by a previously secret situation becoming public. Príklad: Wait till the major hears that! Then the shit'll hit the fan!

Push the boat out – Utrácať viac než zvyčajne, najmä kvôli nejakej špeciálnej príležitosti či oslave. Angl.: To spend generously. To spend more than one is normally accustomed to doing, often to mark a special occasion. Príklad: I think we can push the boat out and have a bottle of champagne.

Spill the beans – Neudržať jazyk za zubami a vytárať tajomstvo. Angl.: To divulge a secret, especially to do so inadvertently or maliciously, to give away a secret or a surprise. Príklad: It was then that she threatened to spill the beans about her affair with the president.

Batten down hatches – Ten hlúpy pocit, keď sa vám zdá, že sa niečo v najbližšej dobe pokazí. Angl.: To prepare for difficult times or troubles. Príklad: When you're coming down with a cold, all you can do is batten down the hatches and wait for the body to fight it off.

Cut and run – Takisto jedna z fráz, ktorú netreba príliš dlho lúštiť. Doslovný preklad: „Rež a uteč“ , hovorí za všetko. Angl. : Run away, to make off suddenly and quickly. Príklad: He wished he could just cut and run.

Know the ropes – Vedieť, vyznať sa v niečom, byť odborníkom. Angl. : Knowledge of how to do something. Príklad: Dont worry about Sara. She knows the ropes.

Cut of your jib – Spôsoby, správanie, charakter určitej osoby. Angl.: Someones general appearance and demeanour, behaviour or attitude. Príklad: I dont like cut of Bens jib.

Three sheets to the wind – Byť veľmi opitý. Angl.: To be explicitly drunk. Príklad: After six beers he was three sheets to the wind.
